About the Author

A.A. Milne (Alan Alexander Milne) was an English author, playwright, and poet who was born on January 18, 1882, in London, England and died on January 31, 1956, in Sussex, England. He is famous for his children’s books, particularly the “Winnie-the-Pooh” series.

Milne was educated at the prestigious Westminster School and later at Trinity College, Cambridge. After completing his studies, he worked as a freelance writer and began contributing articles to various newspapers and magazines. During World War I, Milne served in the British Army and was later recruited as a propaganda writer.

Winnie the Pooh

Milne’s first collection of poems, “When We Were Very Young,” was published in 1924, and it was followed by “Winnie-the-Pooh” in 1926. The success of the “Winnie-the-Pooh” series led to Milne becoming a household name, and he went on to write several more children’s books, as well as plays and novels for adults.

Despite the success of his children’s books, Milne often felt overshadowed by their popularity, and he resented being known primarily as a children’s author. He eventually stopped writing children’s books and focused on his plays and other works, but his legacy as the author of “Winnie-the-Pooh” and other beloved children’s stories has endured to this day.
