Summary of the Three-Body Problem

The novel tells about Wang Miao, a nanomaterials engineer who is recruited by an underground resistance group called Front Line against Simulated Reality. The Three-Body Problem pdf is set in China during the Cultural Revolution and revolves around three main characters: Ye Wenjie, Wang Miao, and Shi Qiang.

Ye Wenjie is a radio astronomer who is exiled to the wilderness after her father, a university professor, is killed during the Cultural Revolution. While working at a remote radio telescope station, she makes contact with an extraterrestrial civilization called Trisolaris.

At the end of the first part of the Three-Body Problem, the aliens invade Earth by creating a simulated reality in which humanity is forced to relive its history over and over again. The novel then focuses on Wang Miao, who is caught up in the conflict between the two civilizations.

About the Author

Liu Cixin is a Chinese science fiction writer. He was born in 1963 in Yangquan, Shanxi Province, China. Three-Body Problem is his first novel to be attainable in English.

Liu has won many awards for his work, including the Galaxy Award (the Chinese Hugo) and the Nebula Award. Three-Body Problem pdf was also shortlisted for the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 2015.

Liu began writing science fiction in the early 1990s. His first story, “Tongtong’s Summer,” comes in 1992. He is famous as one of the most important science fiction writers working today. His work has been compared to that of Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, and Ursula K. Le Guin.

He graduated from the Beijing Institute of Technology in 1986. He worked as an engineer at a power plant in Yangquan until he retired in 2011. Liu died on 9 April 2020, aged 66.
