Kate Chopin was born on February 8th, 1850 in St. Louis, Missouri. The daughter of Eliza Faris and Thomas O’Flaherty, Chopin was raised in an affluent Creole family.
She attended a convent school until the age of 15 and then later moved to New Orleans with her family where she began teaching at age 20. The author is popular all across the globe because of his work.
At 22, she married Oscar Chopin with whom she had two sons and a daughter before his death in 1882 due to tuberculosis. Following his passing, Chopin returned home to live with her mother where she began writing stories for The St. Louis Times-Democrat newspaper.
