Sharon G. Flake is an American author of children’s and young adult literature. She is best known for her novel The Skin I’m In, which was named a Coretta Scott King Award Honor Book.
Flake was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in the city’s Mount Airy neighborhood. She began writing at a young age, and her first novel, The Skin I’m In, was published when she was just 26 years old.
Sharon G. Flake attended the Philadelphia High School for Girls. She then went on to study at Bloomsburg University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. After college, she worked as a journalist for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
