Wes Moore is a writer and social entrepreneur. He is the author of The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, which tells the story of his own life and that of another young man with the same name who grew up just a few miles away from him in Baltimore but ended up taking very different paths in life.
Wes Moore was born in 1978 in Baltimore, Maryland. His father was killed in a robbery when Wes was just three years old, and his mother struggled to raise him and his sister on her own. Wes credits his mother with instilling in him the values of hard work and determination.
Wes Moore attended public schools in Baltimore before enrolling at Valley Forge Military Academy in Pennsylvania. He later studied international relations at John Hopkins University.
In 2001, Wes was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and was decorated for his service.
After leaving the army, Wes worked as an investment banker on Wall Street.
