The novel has been adapted for both the stage, radio, and screen several times since its initial release. It is one of Christie’s best-known novels and is considered to be one of the most ingenious crime puzzles of all time.

Many consider it to be her masterpiece as well as one of the greatest mystery novels ever written. The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd has been translated into multiple languages, including French and Spanish. It is the 14th novel in the Hercule Poirot series and the 6th novel in Christie’s works.

Summary of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd 

The novel is set in the fictional village of King’s Abbey near the English town of Market Basing, and the story follows the investigation of the murder of the wealthy landowner Roger Ackroyd. The novel introduces the character of Hercule Poirot, a retired Belgian private detective living in England.

It is the third novel starring the detective and one of Christie’s most famous works. The book opens with the suicide note from Dr. James Sheppard, who had been treating Ackroyd for an unknown ailment prior to his death.

However, Ackroyd’s secretary Patrick Carnac reveals to Poirot that he believes Ackroyd was murdered by someone close to him. Poirot begins his investigation by examining the relationships between members of the household and other related individuals.

He discovers the identity of the main suspect and the motive behind the murder by examining the facts and clues presented to him.
