About the Author
Kobe Bryant was born on August 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The youngest of three children, he was raised primarily by his father, who had competed professionally in basketball. Kobe’s early years were spent honing his basketball skills and playing on various amateur teams.
At the age of 17, Kobe declared for the NBA draft and was selected 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets. In 2000, Kobe married Vanessa Laine and they have four daughters together. The couple divorced in 2011 but remains close friends to this day.
Kobe Bryant attended Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania and was chosen as a McDonald’s All-American in 1996. He decided to bypass college and declare for the NBA draft at the conclusion of his senior year.
Throughout his professional career, Kobe has won an impressive five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and earned numerous other awards including an MVP award in 2008 and two Finals MVP Awards in 2009 and 2010.
