About the Author
Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. When he was eleven years old, his family moved to the United States. He is the author of the novels The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed.
His books have been published in over seventy countries and translated into more than forty languages. He is a member of the US National Book Critics Circle and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He lives in northern California with his family.
The Kite Runner comes in 2003 and has become one of the most beloved novels of our time. Khaled Hosseini graduated from Santa Clara University with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1988 and from the UC San Diego School of Medicine with an M.D. in 1993.
He worked as a doctor in California until the publication of his first novel, The Kite Runner, in 2003. He has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) since 2006. In 2016, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
