Summary of The Infinite Sea 

The novel opens with a prologue that consists of two letters. The first is from a girl named Cassie Sullivan to her little brother Sammy, telling him that she loves him and telling him to be brave. The second letter is from an unknown person to Cassie, thanking her for her bravery.

The narrative then switches to the first-person perspective of Ben Parish, a high school student who lives with his mother in Greensboro, North Carolina. It is the morning of October 3, and Ben is getting ready for school when he sees a television report about an alien invasion. He rushes to his friend Evan Walker’s house but finds that Evan and his family are gone.

Ben goes to the local grocery store, where he meets his crush, Ashley June, and her mother. They are attacked by one of the aliens, known as a Silencer, but Ben manages to kill it with a fire ax. He then takes Ashley and her mother to his home.

The next day, Ben and Ashley go into town, where they see that the aliens have destroyed most of the town. They also see a spaceship in the distance. Ben and Ashley find a group of survivors.

About the Author

Rick Yancey is the author of more than forty books, including The 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea. He lives in Florida with his family. Rick Yancey was born in Miami, Florida on December 1, 1961. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in English.

After college, he worked as a newspaper reporter and editor. Yancey’s first novel, The Fifth Wave, was published in 2013. The novel was well-received, and a movie adaptation is currently in development.
