Eleanor Estes was born in West Haven, Connecticut on July 11th, 1906. The daughter of an immigrant family, Estes had a strong sense of empathy and understanding for those who are treated differently or not taken seriously within society.
She attended Smith College and studied English Literature from 1924-1928. It is during this time that she wrote The Hundred Dresses pdf, which was published in 1944. The book is still considered a classic and has been translated into over 20 languages since then.
