But as they spend more time together, they begin to realize that they might just be perfect for each other.

Summary of The Duke and I 

The real story includes The Bridgerton family and their pursuit of love and happiness in London during the season. The novel follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter, as she makes her debut in society and tries to find a suitable husband.

Her mother, Lady Bridgerton, is determined to see all of her children married off, especially Daphne who is considered the “most likely to succeed.”

Daphne’s plans are thwarted, however, when she meets The Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset. The Duke is handsome and charismatic, but he has no intention of getting married. He’s determined to resist Lady Bridgerton’s matchmaking efforts, even if it means pretending to be interested in Daphne to make her more desirable to other suitors.

But as they spend more time together, their mutual attraction grows. And soon, The Duke and I become a battle of the heart that neither can win.

About the Author

Julia Quinn started writing her first novel while waiting tables at The Ritz in London. Her break came when Barbara Taylor Bradford bought her second book, The Duke and I, for a record-setting sum. The Duke and I were the first of The Bridgerton series, which went on to become a bestseller.

Julia Quinn was born on February 20, 1970, in London, England. She is the youngest of three children and the only daughter. Her father was a successful barrister and her mother was a stay-at-home mom.

Quinn was complete her early education at The Putney School, a private boarding school in Vermont, USA. She then attended Harvard University, where she earned a degree in History and Literature.

After graduation, Quinn worked as a freelance writer and editor while working on her first novel. She also spent a year living in Japan, teaching English to Japanese students. Julia Quinn died on February 20, 2020, at the age of 50. The cause of death was not immediately known. Quinn is survived by her husband, Brendan Phelan, and their three children.
