Summary of The Crossover 

The novel follows the brothers Josh and Jordan Bell as they navigate their way through a basketball season at their middle school. The novel focuses on the importance of family, friendship, and teamwork both on and off the court.

Josh and Jordan are twins and star players on their middle school basketball team. But as the season progresses, Josh becomes more and more obsessed with winning, while Jordan just wants to have fun. When Josh starts to alienate his teammates and coach, it falls to Jordan to try and bring everyone back together.

It is told in verse, which allows for quick transitions between scenes and provides a rhythm that matches the fast pace of the game of basketball. The novel was inspired by author Kwame Alexander’s own experience as a middle school basketball player.
