About the Author

Clayborne Carson is an American historian and professor. He is best known for his work as the editor of “The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr.” published posthumously in 1998. He is currently a professor of history and the founding director of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute at Stanford University.

Carson was born in 1947, in Brooklyn, New York. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and his Ph.D. in history from UCLA.
