Summary of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing

The actual story tells of Peter Hatcher’s frustration with his little brother, Fudge. No matter what Peter does, Fudge gets into mischief. When Fudge eats Peter’s pet turtle, Dribble, Peter reaches his breaking point.

He wishes that he could have “nothing” for a brother instead of Fudge. Suddenly, his wish comes true, and Peter finds himself the brother of a “nothing.” A “nothing” is exactly what it sounds like–an invisible creature that makes no noise and causes no trouble.

At first, Peter is thrilled with his new brother. But he soon discovers that having nothing for a brother can be just as frustrating as having a Fudge. Despite the challenges, Peter finds that he wouldn’t trade his family for anything in the world.
