Song of Solomon pdf is a novel by Toni Morrison. It was first published in 1977 by Knopf. The main story tells the story of Macon “Milkman” Dead III, a young African-American man living in Michigan, and his journey toward self-discovery and identity.

The novel received mixed reviews upon its release but is now widely considered to be a classic of American literature. It won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 1978 and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1979.

Summary of Song of Solomon 

The story of Song of Solomon takes place in an unspecified African-American community in the United States. It is narrated by a third-person omniscient narrator and follows the life of Milkman Dead, a young black man, from his birth until his early adulthood.

The novel opens with a prologue that introduces the Song of Solomon, which will be a recurring motif throughout the novel. It is a biblical story about a man who leaves his family to find a lost city made of gold.

Milkman is born into a wealthy family, but his mother dies during childbirth and his father, Macon Dead III, is distant and uninvolved in his life. As Milkman grows up, he becomes friends with Guitar Bains, a boy who is part of a group called the Seven Days. The Seven Days are a group of black men who commit crimes and are planning to overthrow the white government.

Milkman becomes romantically involved with Hagar, one of his father’s maids. Macon disapproves of the relationship and sends Hagar away. Milkman is devastated and becomes obsessed with finding her. It is famous as one of the greatest American novels.

About the Author

Morrison was born Chloe Anthony Wofford in Lorain, Ohio, the second of four children in a working-class African-American family. Her parents moved to Toledo, Ohio, when she was young.

Morrison’s father died when she was a child, and her mother worked various odd jobs to support the family. Morrison graduated from high school in 1949 and then attended Howard University. After graduating from Howard in 1953, Morrison married Harold Morrison, a Jamaican architect.

The couple had two sons before divorcing in 1964. Morrison began working as an editor at Random House in New York City in 1965. She became the company’s first black female senior editor in 1967. Morrison’s first novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970.

Song of Solomon was Morrison’s third novel and was published in 1977. It won the National Book Critics Circle Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Morrison went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for her next novel, Beloved (1987).
