About the Author
John Steinbeck was born in 1902 in Salinas, California. He was the third of four children and the only son of John Ernst Steinbeck and Olive Hamilton Steinbeck.
His father worked as a bookkeeper for local ranchers, while his mother played an active role in her son’s education, teaching him botany and taking him on nature walks.
In 1930, he married Carol Henning, with whom he had two sons: Thom and John Steinbeck IV. He began writing Of Mice and Men pdf shortly after their marriage. Of Mice and Men was first published in 1937, followed by The Grapes of Wrath in 1939 which won him a Pulitzer Prize.
