About the Author

Jhumpa Lahiri is an award-winning author of Bengali descent. She was born in London and raised in Rhode Island. Lahiri graduated from Barnard College and received her MFA from Boston University. Her debut novel, Interpreter of Maladies, won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2000.

The author was born Jhumpa Shenoy on July 11, 1967, in London, England, to Bengali parents who had come to the UK from India. Lahiri’s mother, Tapati Guha-Thakurta, is a professor of Indian history at Vassar College, and her father, Amar Nath Lahiri, is a retired librarian from the University of Delhi.
