About the Author

Betty MacDonald (1908-1958) was an American author, best known for writing the children’s book series “Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.” She was born in Boulder, Colorado, and grew up in Seattle, Washington. She attended the University of Washington but did not graduate.

Before becoming an author, Betty had various jobs, including working as a teacher and a housekeeper. In 1942, she published her first book “The Egg and I” which is a memoir of her experiences running a chicken farm on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state, with her first husband.

After the success of “The Egg and I,” Betty wrote several other books, including the “Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle” series. She wrote the first book of the series “Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle” in 1947, which was followed by “Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle’s Magic” in 1949, “Hello, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle” in 1951, and “Goodbye, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle” in 1957.

Betty MacDonald passed away in Seattle, Washington in 1958, at the age of 49. Her legacy lives on through her books, which continue to be enjoyed by readers of all ages.
