About the Author
Aziz Ansari is an Emmy Award-winning actor and stand-up comedian best known for his role as Tom Haverford on the hit television show Parks and Recreation. He is also a New York Times bestselling author, having co-written a book with sociologist Eric Klinenberg called Modern Romance: An Investigation.
Ansari was born in Columbia, South Carolina to a Tamil Muslim family. He grew up in Bennettsville, where his mother ran a medical practice and his father managed a convenience store.
Ansari attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, before moving to New York City to attend college at NYU’s Stern School of Business. It was during his time at NYU that Ansari began performing stand-up comedy, eventually breaking into television and film.
After his role at Parks and Recreation ended in 2015, Ansari began focusing more on stand-up comedy and writing. In 2016 he released a Netflix Original Special, titled Aziz Ansari: Live at Madison Square Garden.
