Summary of the Life of Pi

The real story is about Piscine Molitor “Pi” Patel, a 16-year-old boy from Pondicherry, India. Life of Pi PDF tells the story of his 227-day journey at sea after the ship he was traveling on, the Tsimtsum, sinks. Pi is the only human survivor of the shipwreck, and he shares his lifeboat with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.

The novel begins with Pi’s childhood in Pondicherry. His father, a zookeeper, teaches him about animal behavior and the importance of understanding their needs. When Pi is sixteen, his family decides to move to Canada, and they sell the zoo animals to new homes. The only animals that cannot be sold are an old Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.

About the Author

Yann Martel was born in Spain in 1963 and raised in Canada. He is the author of the book, The Life of Pi Companion, Beatrice & Virgil, and Self. His work has been translated into more than 40 languages. He lives in Saskatchewan, Canada.

Yann Martel married actress Kim Anderson in 2000. They have two sons together, one born in 2003 and the other in 2006. In September 2008, they announced that they were expecting their third child. However, in November of that year, Martel announced on his website that Anderson had miscarried.

The couple divorced in 2009. In 2012, Martel married Life of Pi editor and translator Alice Shu-Yi Chen. They live in Berlin, Germany with their two sons. Yann Martel died on March 20, 2020, at the age of 57.

The cause of death was not immediately known. Yann Martel has written many books including Life of Pi PDF, Companion, Beatrice & Virgil, and Self. His work has been obtainable in more than 40 languages. He is a well-known author and has won many awards for his writing.
