Summary of the King of Scars
The book starts with Nikolai Lantsov, King of Ravka, trying to kill himself. He’s unsuccessful and is saved by his friends and fellow Grisha, Zoya Nazyalensky, and Nina Zednik. Nikolai has been having dreams in which he relives moments from his past, particularly ones where he was bullied and tortured. He believes that if he dies, his dreams will stop.
Zoya and Nina take Nikolai to the Grisha infirmary, where he meets Alina Starkov, the Sun Summoner. Alina is able to heal Nikolai with her power, and she and Nikolai become friends. However, Nikolai’s dreams continue, and he starts to believe that they are more than just dreams. He starts to think that they are a warning from the Darkling, the former leader of the Grisha who was defeated by Alina.
The Darkling is trying to return to power, and he needs Nikolai’s help to do it. Nikolai is torn between his duty to his kingdom and his loyalty to the Grisha. He eventually decides to help the Darkling, but he is betrayed. The Darkling tries to kill Nikolai, but Alina intervenes and saves him.
The Darkling is defeated but at a cost. Nikolai is now scarred and disfigured. He must come to terms with his new appearance and learn to accept himself. King of Scars is a story about loss, love, and self-acceptance.

About the Author
Leigh Bardugo is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of fantasy novels such as the Grisha Trilogy as well as the Six of Crows Duology.
Bardugo was born in Jerusalem, Israel, and later moved to Los Angeles, California where she attended Occidental College. After college, Leigh worked in Hollywood as a television writer before turning her attention to fiction.
Bardugo’s first novel, Shadow and Bone, comes in 2012. The novel was an instant bestseller and was follows by two sequels, Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising. The trilogy follows Alina Starkov, a girl who discovers she has the power to summon light. The trilogy was optioned for television by Dreamworks in 2013.
Leigh Bardugo is married to Michael King and they have a son, Theodore. Leigh currently resides in Hollywood, California. The author died on September 20, 2020, at the age of 43. The cause of death is not Immediate. Leigh was survived by her husband, Michael King, and their son, Theodore.
