About the Author

Octavia E. Butler was born in Pasadena, California on June 22, 1947. She was the only child of Laurice and Octavia Margaret Butler. Her mother had a strong interest in science fiction and fantasy and passed these interests on to Octavia from an early age.

After attending Pasadena City College for two years, she dropped out due to financial struggles and found work as a dishwasher at a coffee shop while writing stories during her breaks. In 1979, after nine attempts at submitting novels to publishers, kindred pdf was finally accepted by Doubleday Publishing Company.
