About the Author
Thomas C. Foster is an American author, scholar, and professor of humanities at the University of Michigan-Flint. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan, and grew up on a farm near Lansing.
Foster graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University before earning his Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Penn State University in English and Comparative Literature respectively.
During this time he also earned a certificate from Harvard University in Creative Writing. After teaching for several years at different universities such as Penn State, Fordham, Harvard, Oberlin College, Miami University, Bowdoin College, and Pacific Lutheran University, Dr. Foster made his home at the University of Michigan-Flint where he has become a full-time professor of Humanities.
Dr. Foster is best known for his textbooks How to Read Literature Like a Professor and How to Read Novels Like a Professor, as well as How to Read Poetry Like a Professor and How to Read Short Stories Like a Professor.
