About the Author
Asad Durrani is a retired Pakistani general who served as the head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence from 1990 to 1992. He has also served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Germany. After retirement, he has written several books, including The spy chronicles: RAW, ISI, and the true face of America.
Asad Durrani was born on 5 August 1947 in Lahore, Punjab, British India into a Pashtun family. His father was an officer in the British Indian Army. He received his early education at the Lawrence College Ghora Gali in Murree Hills.
In 1966, he joined the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Pakistan Army. He was posted to East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
The author attended the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence University, Islamabad. The author also served as a brigade major and a battalion commander before being promoted to the rank of colonel in 1988.
In 1990, he was popular as the head of ISI by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He served in this position until 1992 when he retired from the Army. Since retirement, Asad Durrani has written several books, including The spy chronicles: RAW, ISI, and the true face of America.
