About the Author
Andrew Clements is the author of this novel. He has also written many other books for young readers, including About Average, Room One, and Two Under Par. He lives in Massachusetts with his family.
Clements was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on May 20, 1949. When he was three, his family moved to the small town of Mount Vernon, Ohio. He has one sister, two years younger than him. His father worked as a chemical engineer and his mother was a homemaker.
Clements graduated from Kenyon College in 1971 with a degree in English. He began his career as a teacher, teaching fifth grade in a public school in suburban Chicago. He taught for six years before moving to Massachusetts to become a full-time writer.
Frindle was his first book. It was published in 1996 and won several awards, including the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Fiction. Clements has written more than sixty books for young readers, including picture books, chapter books, and middle-grade novels.
