About the Author

Steven D. Levitt is a professor of economics at the University of Chicago and the William B. Ogden Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Economics. Stephen J. Dubner is an award-winning author, journalist, and radio and TV personality.

Steven D. Levitt was born to parents who were both professors of economics at Harvard University. His father, Arthur Levitt, was the Chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1993 to 2001 and became a New York Times columnist in 2003.

Steven received his bachelor’s degree with honors from Harvard in 1989, then went on to pursue an MBA and law degree at Stanford University before returning to teach at the University of Chicago in 1997.

Stephen J. Dubner was born in New York City and raised in the Bronx. After graduating, Stephen began his career as a journalist and worked for several newspapers including The New York Times and the New Republic before becoming a freelance writer in 1990.
