Summary of Dragonfly in Amber 

The book tells the story of Claire Randall, a World War II nurse who accidentally travels back in time to the 18th century. Claire is forced to marry a Scottish Highlander, Jamie Fraser and they fall in love.

As their life together progresses, they become embroiled in the Jacobite rebellion of 1745 and struggle to protect Scotland’s destiny by preventing Charles Stuart from reclaiming his throne. About the Author

Diana Gabaldon is an American author of historical, science-fiction, and fantasy novels. She has published eight out of the planned nine books in her Outlander series. Dragonfly in Amber is the second book of this series and was first published in 1992.

It won a Quill Award for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror novel in 1993 and was a finalist for the 1995 Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel. Diana Gabaldon was born in Arizona in 1952 to a Mexican-American mother and an English father. She studied zoology at Northern Arizona University and earned her Ph.D.

in Quantitative Behavioral Ecology from The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego in 1978. From there she moved on to a successful career as a writer and remains one of the most popular authors in her genre.

Gabaldon married Douglas Watkins, her college sweetheart, in 1971. They had three children together and currently reside in Scottsdale, Arizona. In addition to writing novels, Gabaldon is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and frequently speaks at conventions around the world.
