About the Author
This novel by the famous Russian novelist and philosopher Fyodor Dostoevsky in 1866. It is widely regarded as one of his greatest works and one of the most influential novels of all time.
Fyodor Dostoevsky was born to a middle-class family near Moscow on November 11, 1821. His father was a physician who worked in the military hospital. He had five siblings and two sisters that survived childhood but all died at young ages of tuberculosis or other illnesses.
From an early age, he showed signs of brilliance but rebelled against his parents’ strictness, joining revolutionary groups when studying at St Petersburg Military Engineering School between 1830-1843.
After his father’s death, Dostoevsky went to work for the army as an engineer. He then decided to pursue a career in writing and worked as a journalist, editor, and writer for various magazines and newspapers.
