Summary of the City of Ember 

The story is set in the city of Ember, a city built underground as the last refuge for humanity after an unknown apocalyptic event. The city is powered by a generator that is starting to fail, and resources are becoming scarce.

Protagonist Lina Mayfleet discovers a piece of paper with mysterious instructions that lead her and her friend Doon Harrow to uncover the city’s forgotten history and plan for its escape before it falls into complete ruin. It tells the story of a city that is slowly running out of resources, and the people who live there must find a way to escape.

About the Author

Jeanne DuPrau started her career as a teacher and later became an editor for a children’s book publisher. She wrote The City of Ember in 2003, which was followed by three more books in the series. She has also written several standalone novels, including The Book of Boy and The Great Tree of Avalon trilogy.

It has received numerous awards and accolades, including being named a New York Times bestseller and a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year. It has also been adapted into a feature film in 2008 starring Saoirse Ronan.
