About the Author
Françoise Sagan was born on June 21, 1935, in Cajarc, a small village in the Lot region of central France. She had an unconventional upbringing: her father was a sophisticated, well-traveled Parisian lawyer and her mother was a farmer’s daughter who had grown up in rural poverty.
At seventeen she wrote Bonjour Tristesse pdf which became an instant success when it was published in 1954 and went on to become an international bestseller. In 1957 she married Guy Schoeller and together they had two children but divorced after five years.
Sagan continued to write throughout her life with Bonjour Tristesse being the most famous of all her works. Her later works often featured themes of love, loss, and nostalgia. She died on September 24, 2004, from a stroke.
In 1953, Sagan enrolled in university and studied law at the Sorbonne in Paris. She also took courses in philosophy, history, and literature during her time there. In addition to her studies, she enjoyed attending the theatre and opera.
