About the Author

Cormac McCarthy was born Charles Joseph McCarthy; on July 20, 1933. He is an American novelist and playwright. He has written ten novels, spanning the Southern Gothic, Western, and post-apocalyptic genres. McCarthy’s first novel, The Orchard Keeper (1965), was nominated for the National Book Award.

McCarthy attended Knoxville High School for one semester before quitting to join the Air Force. He was an English major at the University of Tennessee, but he dropped out in 1957 to pursue a career as a writer.
