Summary of American Gods 

The novel tells the story of the shadow moon, an ex-con who becomes the bodyguard and traveling companion of Mr. Wednesday, a conman and grifter who is, in reality, one of the old gods of mythology struggling to survive in America.

About the Author

Neil Gaiman is an English author of short fiction, novels, comic books, graphic novels, audio theatre, and films. His notable works include the comic book series The Sandman and the novels Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book.

He has won numerous awards, including the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker awards, as well as the Newbery and Carnegie medals. He is the first author to win both the Newbery and the Carnegie medals for the same work, The Graveyard Book (2008).

Gaiman was born in Hampshire, England, the son of Sheila Gaiman (née Goldman) and David Bernard Gaiman. His father’s family were Jewish immigrants from Poland and Russia, while his mother’s family were secular Jews from London. He has two younger sisters, Claire and Lizzy.

After living for a short time in the Croydon area of London, his family moved to East Grinstead in West Sussex when he was three. here he attended Egremont Primary School and then, from 1968 to 1980, Whitgift Middle School.

He lived in a rented house with his family on a road lined with hand-painted signs leading to a variety of lost cities and fantastic places.
