About the Author
George R.R. Martin was born on September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey, to Raymond Collins Martin and Margaret Brady Martin. He graduated from Mary Jane Donohoe School in 1960 and Marist High School in 1964.
After finishing his studies at Northwestern University in 1970, he went on to pursue a career as a writer and editor for several magazines including Twilight Zone Magazine, Amazing Stories, and Omni.
In 1975, George married Gale Burnick, with whom he had two children: Darleen Ann Martin (born 1976) and Arianne Ruth Martin (born 1979). The couple divorced in 1979 but remained close friends until Gale’s death in 2011. In 2013 George remarried Parris McBride.
