Summary of A Rose for Emily 

The novel tells the story of Emily Grierson, a young woman from a prominent Southern family who struggles to deal with the death of her father, her reclusive lifestyle, and rumors about her life. The story is set in the fictional town of Jefferson, Mississippi, in the early 20th century.

Emily is a static character, and the events in the story revolve around her. The story begins with the news of her father’s death and the preparations for his funeral. Emily is reluctant to let go of her father, and she refuses to allow the funeral to take place in her home. She also refuses to sell the house, despite the urging of her cousins.

William Faulkner was an American writer and Nobel Prize laureate from Oxford, Mississippi. Faulkner wrote novels, short stories, a play, poetry, essays, and screenplays. He is primarily famous for his novels and short stories set in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County, based in Lafayette County, Mississippi, where he spent most of his life.

Faulkner is one of the most important writers in American literature, and he is often popular to be one of the greatest authors of the 20th century. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949. His work has been obtainable in more than 40 languages.

Faulkner’s stepmother, Estelle Oldham, was 16 years younger than his father and came from a wealthy family. She had two children from a previous marriage, and she and Murry had three more children together. Faulkner was very close to his sister, Judith, and his brother, John.
