About the Author
Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899, in Oak Park, Illinois. He spent most of his childhood exploring the outdoors and learning to hunt and fish with his father. A gifted student, he became a published writer while still in high school when his short story “My Life in the Bull Ring” appeared in the May 1918 issue of The journal “The Torrent”.
After graduating high school, Ernest attended college at the Kansas City School of Journalism for two semesters before joining the Red Cross and serving as an ambulance driver in World War I.
In 1921, he married Elizabeth Hadley Richardson and moved to Paris where he wrote A Farewell to Arms (1929). The author takes interest in writing from an early age.
Hemingway had a successful career as a journalist and novelist, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. A Farewell to Arms remains one of his most renowned and widely read works, having been adapted into two movies, a musical, and an opera. He died on July 2, 1961.
